Hope is Here: School-age evacuees receive reading, writing lessons

Amidst the damaging eruption of Taal volcano, school-age learners that evacuated at Senior High School in Malvar show high hopes for their future as they receive reading and writing lessons from the school faculty and volunteers.

Spearheaded by Mrs. Marianne Caraig, evacuees that are currently on elementary level were treated to a reading and writing session, along with other language teachers of SHS in Malvar.

The student-evacuees were divided into three. Class 1 is composed of students who are in Grades 1-2; Class 2 for Grades 3-4; and Class 3 for Grades 5-6.

"It is of high importance to put premium on education and remind our children that nothing should stop us from learning," said Caraig in an interview.

Parents of the school-age children appreciate the effort and initiative of senior high teachers to offer the lessons.

"Maraming salamat po dahil patuloy ang inyong pagtulong at pagkalinga sa aming mga evacuees na biktima ng pagputok ng bulkang Taal," said a parent of a Grade 4 student.

Senior High School in Malvar has been a home for 633 individuals from areas of Balete, Tanauan and Malvar that evacuated after the volcanic eruption last January 12.
