To entrust new boy and girl scouts with scouting responsibilities, Malvar Senior High School held its first joint institutional investiture ceremony, Mar. 11.

The event began with the processional and the entrance of colors. It was immediately followed by a prayer, singing of the national anthem, and Pledge of Allegiance.

In her speech, the school principal, Mrs. Rosalie Liwanag, welcomed the participants and reminded them of the importance of scouting.

“Ang mga batas ng scout ay hindi lamang dapat sinasaulo kundi nararapat na isabuhay sa araw-araw na pamumuhay. At dahil unang beses na nagkaroon tayo ng ganitong programa, sisikapin natin na maging active at mapaganda pa ang scouting sa ating paaralan,” Mrs. Liwanag said.

One of the highlights of the ceremony was the candle-lighting that symbolizes the essence of scouting and the membership of new scouts as they were accepted into the council by Ms. Judith Dinaya, Malvar District GSP Coordinator, and Mr. Eric Lubrino, Lobo District BSP Coordinator.

Another event highlight was the donning of the neckerchief as the scouts were assisted by their chosen sponsors.

After the ceremony, all the scouts were grouped into 16 teams to accomplish eight tasks including Scouting 101, Karera ng Alupihan, Skin Snake, Tug of War, T-shirt Relay, Dodge Ball, Cart Race, and Buko Relay. Among the 16 groups, Team Lawaan won as they received a total of 140 points over 150.

Aizzy Malaluan, a participant from HUMSS 121 who was part of Team Lawaan shared her experience after the activities.

"Best experience ever! Sobrang saya and sobrang solid ng mga ka-team ko. In-enjoy lang namin yung ginagawa namin at pagtutulungan ang aming pinairal kaya kami nagtagumpay," Aizzy said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Anthony Buño, the School BSP Coordinator, who spearheaded the activity with Ms. Grace Joy Fernandez, the School GSP Coordinator, told El Calibre the reason behind exposing the scouts to the organized activities.

“All the games were intended to teach the scouts teamwork and persistence to win. It gave them a lesson that no matter what happens, just keep going and never give up. And as scouts, they should learn to listen to the authorities so that when the time comes that they will be the authorities, they are also the ones that people need to listen to,” Mr. Buño explained.
